Gotta Get Up to DATE – Gosh Darn it!

Hello Peeps!

So much going on – so many pictures to post!

I recently went away with my bestest crafting buddies to a weekend retreat up in Westbrook, CT.  We stayed at the lovely Stannard Inn.  A charming bed and breakfast owned and run by the equally charming Jim & Mary Brewster.  The Inn was wonderfully cozy, quaint and spacious and each of the guest rooms were decorated nicely, very clean and extremely comfortable.  The food was absolutely delicious- Jim and Mary are excellent cooks, using mainly locally grown produce and meat from nearby farms.  The Inn itself is not only located blocks from the beach, but it happens to be located next two very AWESOME craft stores:  The first, PaperCraft Clubhouse, is a store specializing in all things paper: scrapbooking, cardmaking, etc.  The other store, Beautiful Impressions, specializes in stamping – stamps, inks, stencils, Twinkling H2O’s, etc.  I did equal “damage” in both stores.  But, hey, this girl was on VACATION and temporarily forgot she lives on a budget.

So, what else did we do besides shop and eat, you ask??  Well, Cheryl, our fearless “leader” of sorts gave us all an assignment to complete by the end of the weekend.  We each had to create 8 identical tags (one for each of us) that had on one side what we liked best about our weekend, and on the other side, creative art of some kind: drawing, stamping, paper, etc.  I have to say that although it took me almost the entire weekend to complete the tags, I was so happy to have just one project to focus on.  I had also recently purchased a bunch of Dylusions stamps and stencils by Dyan Reaveley and was thrilled to be able to just “play” with them all weekend.  They certainly gave my tags a whimsical look. I will post the entire book of tags TOMORROW.

So, here are some pictures from that wonderful weekend.

30 Days of Get Your Art on: Days 9, 10, 11, 12 + Art Is…YOU Wrap-up

Hello!  Well, I’m still basking in the wonderful glow of Art Is…You.  I had such an unbelievably wonderful time and made so many new friends.  If you’ve never been to an art retreat, you MUST get yourself to one-PRONTO! There is nothing like being under the same roof for 3-4 days with like-minded crafty/arty people who are as excited to be there as you are.  There is nothing like being amongst 200 happy, smiling people who are all so friendly and welcoming.  I attended by myself but never felt alone.  Meals, breaks, hanging out – always found such friendly people to talk to – students and teachers both!  This retreat was worth every penny and I will do it again when it comes around again next October.  If you aren’t on the East Coast, I urge you to surf the web and find a retreat in your area or someplace easy to travel to.  It really will change your life.

So, I took three of Jodi Ohl‘s classes (Prafitti, Who Are You and Groovy Little Villages) and one of Nancy Lefko‘s (Mixed Media Farmer’s Market).  Below are pictures from all classes and from the vendor’s market that took place on one of the evenings.

Enjoy!

Fantastic, fearless and fun teacher, Jodi Ohl!

Sallianne & Me. Sallianne McClelland and Ellen Legare (who i didn't get a picture with, unfortunately) are the masterminds behind Art Is...You. It is because of these two ladies that hundreds of artists all over the world get to enjoy these retreats. Thanks for all you do, Sal & Ellen!

Adorably cute and talented Jenny Holiday! She and her boyfriend, Aaron, taught a class that I didn't get to take but kept peeking over at! Check out her website for her wonderfully YUMMY art!

And who’s sitting behind me in Groovy Villages class? None other than the delightful and so very talented, Sally Lynn MacDonald!!

30 Days of Get Your Art on: Day 8 + Art Is…YOU

Hello everyone!

I’m at the Art Is…You‘s retreat in Danbury, CT.  I arrived last night and had my first class today with the wonderfully delightful and uber-talented Jodi Ohl.  The class was called “Free Style Praffiti” and was essentially an abstract painting class in which Jodi gave us insight on how to loosen up, let go of “rules”, and just let our intuition and “happy accidents” take over the creative process.

The students in this class were so incredibly talented – each canvas was beautiful yet so markedly different from one another.  It just added to the excitement of the process as a whole.  Tomorrow’s agenda includes a class taught by the wonderful Nancy Lefko – who I got to meet this morning for the first time — she is so incredibliy nice!  Oh, and so is Pam Carriker, whom I also had the opportunity to meet! And Traci Stilwell, too!  I’m totally rubbing elbows and hobnobbing with mixed media’s elite this weekend!

Here is a picture from today’s class.
